Base 51 – enabling local young people in the city and county of Nottingham reach their potential

Base 51 adopts the World Health Organisation’s definition of health: “Health is a state of optimal physical and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Mission Statement“Enabling young people to reach their potential”

Base 51’s understanding of potential includes: good health, educational attainment, employability, creativity and adopts the World Health Organisation definition of health:  Health is a state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Use of this definition informs how we deliver support young people (aged 11 – 25yrs) and acknowledges the need to consider the whole person and their environment.

To fulfill this Base 51 supports young people aged between 12 – 25, providing easy access to services including: Health, Counselling,  Practical support such as affordable meals, and Free laundry and showers.

Why the community needs this charity

Base 51 recognises the challenges facing young people particularly those, for example, who experience relationship breakdown in their families, find school difficult, have been in care, are a young parent or homeless. A “wrap round” service in one centre enables young people to work through these issues, make the transition to adulthood and contribute positively to their local community.

“Base 51 found me somewhere to stay for the night whilst I had nowhere to go”

“Coming here made me feel better within myself and feel like I had someone to talk to so I didn’t feel like I’m alone or worthless”

Partnership Working

BASE 51 recognises the importance of partnership working and the added value that it can bring. Close working relationships have been developed with statutory and voluntary organisations locally and nationally.

Confidentiality Statement

Base 51 is a Confidential Service and will not usually give out information to other agencies without the young person’s permission.

However, if Base 51 thinks that there is a risk of harm to the young person yourself or others then we may contact other relevant agencies to help.
