Volunteer Counsellors

Base 51 Counselling Service utilises as its core philosophy the Person-Centred approach to promote the self-acceptance of clients at a time in their lives when it is often most relevant.

As a service we offer an opportunity to people seeking to gain or increase their work experience in a supportive environment. You may be a counsellor in training who seeks the experience necessary to develop their skills and experience. Alternatively, as a qualified and experienced therapist you may wish to further your experience by working within a multi-disciplinary agency focusing on working with young people.

We provide a complete recruitment, training and induction programme that is designed to facilitate your growth as a therapist.
In terms of the relationship with Base 51 and in return for volunteers’ time and commitment, we provide clinical supervision, appropriate training and an opportunity to work within a dynamic and challenging environment.

We work as part of a multi-disciplinary service team here at Base 51 and also have established working relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies throughout the city and county.

Our commitment, expertise and experience enable us to offer an understanding of mental health care relevant to the individual whose aim is to become an experienced and professional counsellor with young people.
