On Tuesday 17th October the Centre nurse, parents and their toddlers took part in a Toddle Waddle. The aim being to help raise awareness around meningitis. The Centre Nurse at BASE 51 knows how important it is to be aware of meningitis, which still kills more children under the age of 5 in the UK than any other infectious disease and as part of the work of BASE 51, with young parents the Toddle Waddle is a perfect way to have some fun and raise awareness working in partnership with other local community groups. Highlights on the day inlcuded:
Following on from this event, BASE 51 invited Matt Clarke from the Meningitis Trust to attend the Centre, 2 short talks for young parents followed.
BASE 51 would like to acknowledge the support from Nottinghamshire Community Foundation.
The football team was formed following a long consultation process with the young people in order to encourage them to lead healthier and more disciplined lives.
On the 24th August 2005, the BASE 51 Football Team played in their first ever competitive tournament.
The BASE 51 staff team are hoping this will be a building block for a future Men's Health Group.
Students from The University of Nottingham, through the Kontact Project, have kindly donated a brand new full football kit. This kit was first used in a friendly 5-a-side match against University of Nottingham students - followed by supper and a short presentation by Alison Clarke (Learning Support Tutor - Nottingham School of Nursing) to raise awareness around testicular examination and testicular cancer in conjunction with Every Man's Cancer Awareness - run through the month of June.

Today at BASE 51 the Nottingham Crime & Drugs Partnership launched the "talktofrank" bus to raise drugs awareness in the City.
The unmissable bus was sent on its way with local boxer Carl Froch cutting the ribbon with young people from the City.
Watch out for the "talktofrank" bus on your local route!
The BASE 51 staff team came together together alongside young people in the planning, implementing and evaluating of this national campaign. This involved taking the message of each year's campaign and building an activity based afternoon, where everyone had lots of fun.
