As many people are aware, the area around Glasshouse Street is currently being developed - as part of this, the building, which BASE 51 leases from Nottingham City Council, will be sold and the building will go.
Whilst this is sad, as this building has served us well over the past 15 years and is an excellent example of a young person friendly centre, this must be seen as an opportunity to improve our facilities while maintaining what we currently have.
The services we have provided over the years have developed to meet the needs of young people and this is an opportunity to develop our physical environment to improve what we can offer to young people. This is also an opportunity to bring in other partner agencies and we are working with the Youth Service, both in identifying a venue and what it will look like.
Young people were involved right from the start with our current building and it is important this happens again – we need young people to help us make sure our next building is just as young person friendly and accessible – so, please watch this space for updates and tell us what you think is important for our next building.
You can either call in to BASE 51 and talk to a member of staff or email any ideas or suggestions to info@base51.org.uk
What is important is that BASE 51 is still delivering services to young people and intends to continue until the new building is ready – so it is - business as usual!
