The BASE 51 Counselling Service

What we offer
The Base 51 Counselling Service offers young people a safe and confidential space in which there is an opportunity to explore, identify and understand past and present experiences. Our aim is help young people discover new ways of coping and to feel and think better about themselves and their lives and promote greater well-being.

Support for you?
Being a human being is a very complicate thing and involves all sorts of stuff including happy/sad, easy/difficult, fair/unfair etc etc, its all part of life.
Very often, and for lots of different reasons young people don’t want to discuss problems with family or teachers, and that’s why we are here; to offer you extra help and support. We want to make sure that you’re not dealing with difficult issues that are making you sad, angry and unhappy on your own.

Do I need counselling?
There are many things young people use counselling to talk about including;

How it works

Step 1 You can contact us yourself or another agency (Doctor, School/College, Connexions, Social Care etc) may do this for you.

Phone us on (0115 9525040)

OR

Come to our ‘Drop-In’ session on a

Monday afternoon between 2pm - 4pm and on

Thursday evening between 4pm - 6pm.

You do not need an appointment – just ask the member of staff who meets you when you come in for Carl or Michael.

Step 2 The next step is to have an assessment with one of the counselling team. We will describe how Base 51 works and how we may be able to support, as well as getting to know you and how you view things and what support you may need.

Remember, we view everyone as unique, we accept all young people for who they are.

Step 3 So, out of the assessment there will be a decision made as to counselling, some other type of support or even to do nothing! The decision is usually down to what you think is right for you.

Step 4 If you choose counselling you will be allocated to one of the team and counselling will begin.
As counsellors we do not “fix" people or tell them what to do; instead we listen, understand and accept, in order to support you!
