The BASE 51 Medical Service

The Medical Service at BASE 51 has developed over recent years into a "Nurse Led" service, consisting of a Centre Nurse who is an extended NURSE PRESCRIBER* and a Health Information Advisor. This enables the Medical Service to offer a wide range of services and support to young people, ranging from sexual and physical health to crisis intervention for mental health issues and general health promotion.

The Service is part of the holistic ethos of BASE 51 and works with the multi-disciplinary team to provide an intergrated service to young people.

Our aim is to see all those young people who do not have access to mainstream services.

Services and Support Available from the BASE 51 Medical Service include:

BASE 51 is a member of the C Card Scheme - this means that young people aged between 13 - 19 years can register at BASE 51 and at other registration points throughout the City and collect condoms on a regular basis. For a list of registration and pick up points click here.

How to access the Medical Service

Just come to the front door, NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY please ring the bell.

The Nurse is available during open access sessions on:

*NURSE PRESCRIBER

A nurse prescriber can write prescriptions for basic medications, including Emergency Contraception, pain relief, plasters and bandages etc. treatments for coughs, colds and upset stomachs.
